Laser marked 304 stainless, 3/16" mounting hole

"Professional label plates for a very good price. I needed to label house disconnects, and was going to use a sharpie, but the 'chat' suggested a real label plate instead. Panel Label's site was easy to use, love the live preview to really see it, arrived in a few days, and adhesive was already attached. Looks nice and professional!" - Bob C

When the Spec Says Stainless

Engineers name stainless steel when the environment will destroy anything else - and when a tag has to survive as long as the piping it identifies.

Not every job needs metal. For maintenance replacements, indoor mechanical rooms, and color-coded service identification, engraved two-ply acrylic costs less, ships faster, and carries the ANSI color as part of the tag. Compare acrylic valve tags.

Specification Sections We Supply

Send the identification section from your project manual with the quote request. We will read the tag material, size, character height, and schedule requirements and quote to match.

Identification for Plumbing Piping and Equipment

Valve tags, valve schedules, and equipment nameplates for domestic water, sanitary, and plumbing systems.

Identification for HVAC Piping and Equipment

Chilled water, hot water, steam, condenser water, and refrigerant valve identification.

Identification for Process Piping

Water and wastewater treatment process piping, chemical feed, sludge, and effluent lines.

Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems

Service legend, character height, and color reference used alongside metal tags.

Where Stainless Tags Get Used

Mechanical contractors, plant maintenance teams, and facility engineers order metal tags for the jobs where plastic is not an option.

Spec-driven construction jobs

When the section calls out stainless steel by material or grade, a plastic equal will not close out the punch list. Metal tags match the spec.

Wastewater and chemical areas

Headworks, digesters, chlorine and hypochlorite rooms - H2S and washdown chemistry that tarnishes brass and attacks coatings.

High heat and steam service

Boiler rooms, steam mains, and exhaust piping where surface temperature rules out plastic tags.

Outdoor and marine exposure

Tank farms, docks, coastal facilities, and rooftop mechanical where salt spray and UV are constant.

Equipment and asset nameplates

Pump, motor, blower, and skid nameplates with model, serial, HP, voltage, and asset number.

Punch-list and replacement runs

Ten to thirty tags needed before the walkthrough. Small runs are welcome - no minimum order for a rush.

How to Get a Quote

  • Tell us the tag shape, size, and thickness - or send the spec section and we will pull the details out.
  • Send the valve schedule or tag list as a spreadsheet, or give us the service text, starting number, and quantity.
  • Confirm the mounting hole size and position, and whether you need chain, S-hooks, or wire.
  • We return pricing and a layout proof. Approve it and the job goes into production.

Contractors and municipalities: include the project name and PO details and we will set up invoicing for the job.

Stainless Valve Tags - Common Questions

What grade of stainless do you use?

We mark 304 stainless, the general-purpose grade that handles indoor and outdoor mechanical rooms, steam service, washdown areas, and most outdoor exposure.

Are stainless valve tags engraved or stamped?

We laser mark stainless tags, which produces a permanent high-contrast legend bonded into the surface rather than a coating that can flake or wash off. If your specification requires physically recessed characters you can feel, tell us in the quote request and we will confirm before we run the job.

What size should a stainless valve tag be?

1.5" round is the most common size for valve identification and fits a service abbreviation plus a number. Step up to 2" round or a 3" x 1.5" rectangle when you need two or three lines of text, or for equipment nameplates.

Can you number a full valve schedule?

Yes. Send the valve schedule as a spreadsheet, or tell us the service text, starting number, and quantity, and we will build the sequential set. Reorders can pick up where the last block ended so the numbering stays continuous.

Do you accept purchase orders from contractors and municipalities?

Yes. Contact us with the project name and PO details before ordering and we will set up invoicing for the job.

Have a Valve Schedule to Tag?

Send the list and the spec section - we will quote the stainless set.
